How to consign your luxury pieces: the ALE PARIS process explained

How-to-Consign-Your-Luxury-Pieces:-The-ALE-PARIS-Process-Explained

Consignment is a straightforward concept with a significant amount of variation in execution. The difference between a good consignment experience and a frustrating one comes down to transparency at each stage: how the piece is valued, how long it takes to sell, and how payment is handled. Here is exactly how the process works at ALE PARIS.

Step 1 — Submission

You bring your piece to the boutique, or contact us in advance to discuss whether it falls within our selection criteria. We accept pieces from the major luxury houses — Chanel, Dior, YSL, Hermès, Gucci, Céline, Mugler, Balenciaga, Givenchy, Valentino, Prada, Louis Vuitton, and others — in Very Good condition or above. We do not accept pieces we cannot authenticate or sell at a price that reflects their actual value.

Step 2 — Authentication

We examine label construction and evolution, hardware casting and engraving, stitching density and technique, fabric composition and quality, interior finishing, and comparison against authenticated reference pieces.

Step 3 — Valuation

Valuation is based on current market data, condition grade, rarity, and demand. We are direct about what a piece can realistically achieve — we do not inflate estimates to win consignments. A Chanel 2.55 in Excellent condition currently achieves between €2,000 and €4,000 depending on hardware colour and season. A Mugler architectural jacket from the late 1980s in Pristine condition can exceed €1,500. We provide a written valuation with the reasoning behind it.

Step 4 — Contract

We sign a consignment contract specifying the agreed sale price, the commission structure, the duration of the consignment period, and the terms for return if the piece doesn't sell. Nothing proceeds without a signed agreement.

Step 5 — Listing and promotion

Your piece is photographed, described, and listed in the boutique and online. We write the product description, handle all customer enquiries, and manage the sale process entirely. You don't need to be involved unless you want to be.

Step 6 — Sale and payment

Once sold, payment is transferred within 7-10 business days. Commission is deducted at the point of payment — there are no upfront fees. If the piece hasn't sold within the agreed consignment period, we contact you to discuss next steps: price adjustment, extension, or return.

The pieces we accept for consignment are the pieces we would buy ourselves. That's the simplest way to describe our selection criteria.
